THE
MOSEUM OF WEST NUSA TENGGARA
Introduction
The development of tourism recently has brought
english as a very important tool. In line with this, we, as students of English
department, should have the competence of how we will engage in tourism
industry. This is showed by our instutition as it provides the subjects in
relation to tourism aspect. One of them is Practice of Tourism Guiding that is
helpful for us as it allows us to do many things.
Transfortation
On Friday, 12th of April 2019, we visited
NTB’s mesuem using our own motorcycle. We went from our boarding house at 2 pm
and got there at 2.15 pm. Fortunately, during our way to get there, we did not
find any hard problems and obstacles rather got wet in the midlle of the road.
When we had already arrived at the mesuem, something from the distance directly
caught our eyes. Finally, we decided to come in soon and paid the ticket for
about Rp4.000
The
Historical and Cultural Musuem of Lombok
NTB meseum or Lombok museum is located in the Mataram
city at panji tilar street. This non-profit instutition museum was pioneered
since 1976 and officially inaugurated in January 23rd, 1982. Now the
collection is reaching 7513 Pcs and some of them are the historical age
collections before mindkinds know how to write and read up until now. This
museum is usually opened on Tuesday- Friday at 8:00 – 2 :00 pm, and
Saturday-Sunday 8:00-11:00 hours. The meseum has a wide range of collections
which includes geology, biology, ethnography, archeology, history, numismatic,
heraldic, philology and ceramics.
From outside of the place, we can see the relics of
a canon and anchor the rest of the Dutch arrival. While, inside it, you can not
only see the artifact of the tribes who dwelled Lombok and Sumbawa islands, but
also artifact of Chinesee who came to trade. At the first you enter, in front
of the lobby you will be welcomed by a 4,1 preserved crocodile which is put in
the big glass box. In the north side of the building is displayed several kind
of endangered animal and plants specimen which are protected by government such
as Gaharu wood, Kalicung wood, Sumbawa myMna bird, King haliforn butterfly and
some sea biota.
In the first permanent building to the second one,
you will pass a small corridor which in the middle has been placed Borobudur
and Prambanan temples miniature. The second permanent building is larger that
the first. When entering this room, there are 4 couples bride and groom which
are wearing Sasak, Sumbawa, Bima and Bali traditional bride clothes. In the
next of Bali couple, there are two units of horse toys which are called “Jaran
Kumput” that is usually ridden by children who are going to have circumcised.
Besides, you could also see the weaving equipement which is usually used by
Lomboknesee and Bimanese and still use up to now as well as can see the weaving
clothes with Bima and Sasak motif such as Subhanala and Ngusuwaru.
In the north, there are Chinese porcelain from 10th-14th
century from Ching dynasty, traditional musical instrument, Hindu and Islam
praying equipement, masks, etc. In addition, jewelry, ceremony equipment and
dagger which are made from gold and silver in glass box are the heritage of
kingdom in West Nusa Tenggara.
In the south, there are Takepan, a kind of script
which is written using Sasak, Ngawi and Arabic letters on palm tree and wood
surface and each Takepan has different stories. Takepan Babad Suwung is telling
about small kingdom in Lombok such as Selaparang, Bayan and Pejanggik. Takepan
indrajaya is telling about Indrajaya who learned Islam from Syekh Salamudin.
Finally, this museum also offered heritage of Bima Sultanate, traditional
kitchen tools, transportation tools, Lelampak sandal made from Enau (a type of
palm/sugar tree), many more.
Facilities
If you are planning to visit this museum, don’t
worry about the facilities as this mesuem provides. Many adorable facilities
such as information centre, toilet, small mosque, parking area, gazebo,
minimarket and food stalls. In addition, there are some nearest hotels and resorts
from the place including Griya Asri hotel, Grand Legi hotel and Lombok Grand
hotel.
Significance
a) Aspect
of theory
1) This
observation hopefully helps students to know about the ancient and unique
artifact collections in Indonesia.
2) The
outcome of this observation is hoped to be beneficial for the lecturer in teaching
this subject.
b) Aspect
of practice
1) The
output of this observation is aiming at resolving students lack of knowledge in
knowing Indonesian artifact.
2) The
outcome of this activity can helpful for teacher to overcome the difficulities
in organizing their knowledge about teaching unique items in that museum.
c) Aspect
of pedagogy
The
upshot of this observation is hoped useful for lecturer in term of teaching
Practice of tourism guiding.
